Area Sports 2011

Information for parents

The 2011 Area Sports at Horspath Athletics Stadium will last about two hours. In 2009 the place was packed.

Here is what you can do to make it easier for yourself:

  1. If you can, please car share.

  2. Park either in the car park, or on the Industrial Estate near the ring road, or in the overflow car park the council are arranging on the top field. See the Venue and Parking tab for maps. If you leave your car parked on the road or grass verge history tells us you will get a parking ticket or even have it towed away.

  3. Inside the stadium there are several hundred seats, and plenty of space around the track. Know what events your son or daughter is doing and try to be in the right place at the right time. See the Programme and the Track layout.

  4. Please remain outside the blue rail at all times whilst spectating.

  5. The stadium has toilets and refreshments. The refreshment bar will close as soon as the evening is over - so if you want to buy some snacks for your athlete please do so before the relays get underway.

  6. If we have a bad storm we'll move the children into the stand - and the spectators will need to move out. Please be prepared for this, and comply promptly if this plan is put into action.

Prepare your child by ensuring they have the following with them:

  1. Flat trainers (not spikes and not football boots or studs). Laces firmly tied, double knots are best.

  2. At least one bottle of water or two. If it is a humid evening, have two bottles.

  3. Something warm to pull over themselves as the evening chill sets in.

  4. If you think it is going to be wet, a coat of some sort, and something they can sit on if the grass is wet.

  5. I know you'll do it, but feed and water them before they come down, make use of the washroom at home, and don't leave the trainers on the kitchen table.
