Area Sports 2011

Wheatley Partnership Primary Schools, Horspath Track, Friday 15th July 2011 at 5.30pm

About

The Area Sports were first held at Horspath Track in 2009.

They return for a second time this year thanks to the initiative of Mrs Eve Hunter, the Head of Little Milton Primary School, and the current chair of the Partnership Schools' Head teachers.

Mrs Hunter on behalf of the schools has joined forces with myself, Mr Pat Read, who organised the 2009 event with considerable help from about 40 volunteers, mostly friends and athletes from Headington Road Runners.

Building on the success and lessons learned from 2009, Eve and I have shaped this year's event along the following principles:

  • Each school can enter at least two children per year and gender group (eg. 2 Y4 boys, 2 Y4 girls, etc) in an event.

  • Every child who competes in an event wins points for his/her school.

  • Small schools earn default points if they are unable to field a full team in an event.

  • A levelling out factor is applied to schools' points tally to allow small and big schools to compete on an equal basis.

  • The evening must finish in two hours.

  • A budget of £2,000 has been agreed, shared between the eight participating schools.

There is a lot more detail about the form the evening will take elsewhere on this website.

Kind regards,

  Pat Read
